Deborah Adler: Fall 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Lecture

Thursday, December 5
7:00pm
SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street
Free and open to the public

The SVA Alumni Society presents the Fall 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Lecture with Deborah Adler (MFA 2002 Design), principal of Adler Design. Formerly senior designer for Milton Glaser, the designer and entrepreneur will discuss her work, her background and her professional goal of making people’s lives easier and safer. Adler’s acclaimed ClearRx prescription packaging system was inspired by her thesis project at SVA and developed in partnership with Target. She has been featured in such publications and programs as Glamour, NBC Nightly News and New York, and her work is in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Remembering
Jeanne Siegel

It is with deep sadness that we inform alumni of the passing of Jeanne Siegel, BFA Fine Arts Department chair emeritus, who died peacefully at her home in New York City on November 16.

Jeanne began her career at SVA as an art history teacher in the spring of 1973. She had become coordinator of the art history program when, in August 1976, she was also appointed chair of the Fine Arts Department.
Her most lasting contribution comes from the success of those who have graduated while she was chair. Their names and numbers are truly impressive. It was no surprise, then, that at the 2004 Whitney Biennial, six of the seven SVA alumni represented at the exhibition were graduates from her tenure. No other undergraduate program in the country was as well represented.

Jeanne will be missed by her family and many friends and remembered by generations of SVA students.

“Winning an Alumni Scholarship Award was a great feeling. It was a sign that people understood and enjoyed my work enough to back it financially, which left me with a sense of validation of the project and me as an artist. The award helped me finally realize a finished piece according to my vision without budget constraints.”
