This is a discipline-specific, paid apprenticeship program, designed to give talented individuals the tools needed to be successful in a career at Huge. Teaching Careers in the Arts: An Alumni Panel Discussion

Curious about teaching art but not sure where to begin? What options are there for artist educators? This panel discussion will feature several SVA alumni who are teaching in the arts,  Pre-K-12, college level, and a non-profit. Find out if teaching is the right path for you, and learn how to navigate the world of teaching in the arts. Moderated by Dr. Stacy Miller, Ed. D. Dr. Miller was the director of art and design education at and currently teaches in the photography department at Parsons The New School for Design. Please click here to register.

Competition to design the new National Humanities Medal

The National Endowment for the Humanities is seeking a new design for the National Humanities Medal, which is bestowed annually by the President of the United States in a White House ceremony. For details on submission, please click here.

MFA Social Documentary Film Department hosts DOC NYC, New York's leading documentary festival. Opening night features the U.S. premiere of Artifact, which follows SVA alumnus Jared Leto's band Thirty Seconds to Mars as it battles a lawsuit against its record label, and the New York premiere of Venus and Serena, which follows the tennis-conquering Williams sisters during the most intimidating year of their careers. MFA Art Criticism and Writing Department invites Luc Sante to explore how photography is unlike other arts, as it is seldom entirely within the control of the artist and almost always represents a collaboration with chance. For more information please click here.

Award-Winning Films from the 2011 Morelia International Film Festival

For the last nine years BFA Film, Video and Animation Department has collaborated with the Celebrate Mexico Now - the first and only annual festival of contemporary Mexican art and culture - to showcase the winners of the Morelia International Film Festival. Award-winning short films from last year's competition will be screened, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Hurricane Sandy

Although Hurricane Sandy disrupted the lives of many in the Northeast, the SVA residential community and campus came are safe and sound. Our thoughts are with those alumni who continue to face challenges in the storm's aftermath. Taking Custody: The Double Life of the Artist Mother

On Tuesday, October 16th artist, educator and blogger Sharon L. Butler moderated a conversation with alumni Katherine Bernhardt (MFA 2000 Fine Arts), Renee Cox (MFA 1992 Photography), Suzanne McClelland (MFA 1989 Fine Arts), Rachel Papo (MFA 2005 Photography, Video and Related Media) and Amy Stein (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media), and faculty member Danica Phelps. The artists discussed their experiences negotiating the demands of the commercial art world with those of motherhood. The event was a huge success!
