This exhibition uses the idea of psychedelia—an ancient Greek term for “mind-manifesting”—to explore the manifestations of the mind: the weird, the crazy, the beautiful, the deeply private and the inconceivable. The artists present works that bring fantasies to life, memories to present time and delve into the deep crevices of the unconscious. Curated by Keren Moscovitch (MFA 2005 Photography, Video and Related Media) and presented by the Division of Continuing Education.

The Pond, the Mirror, the Kaleidoscope:
Contemporary Figuration Through a Symbolist Lens

Visual Arts Gallery
Tuesday, August 20 – Saturday, September 14
Reception: Wednesday, September 11, 6:00pm
601 West 26th Street, 15th floor
Free, open to the public

Save the date for “The Pond, the Mirror, the Kaleidoscope,” the 2013 alumni exhibition curated by Thomas Woodruff, chair of the BFA Illustration and Cartooning departments. The artists in the exhibition are influenced by Symbolists. Their subjects may be environmental (“the Pond”), societal and cultural (“the Mirror”) or a post-apocalyptic, futuristic mash-up (“the Kaleidoscope”), but the intention of the artists is clear: They want the viewer to enter into a world of ideas and images that challenge and engage.
